This is a lovely\u00a018ct<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0gold ring with a platinum top that was made circa 1900-1910. It has been rub over set with a stunning cabochon cut high colour\u00a0opal<\/span><\/span><\/span> that displays strong flashes of green and blue with red undertones. At the turn of the 20th century opals were coming in to England from Australia. The first discovery of common opals in Australia was made near Angaston by the German geologist Johannes Menge in 1849. Both the Queensland Boulder Opal and Lightning Ridge fields attracted miners in the 1880\u2019s. The opals found were exported in large quantities world wide and became really fashionable as the \u201cmust\u201d stone to wear! It is surrounded by twelve small well matched good white diamonds.
