A very pretty 18ct gold ring with a platinum top that was made circa 1910. It has been set in platinum with a natural bouton pearl in the centre with six green garnets around it with small diamonds within scalloped settings in between.\u00a0 Green garnets or Demantoid<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0garnets as they are known, are wonderful stones that are a lovely apple green colour. Although garnets have been known since ancient times, the demantoid variety was not discovered until 1868 in Russia\u2019s western central Ural Mountains. Miners were immediately stunned by the highly refractive nature of the gem material. They began comparing it to\u00a0diamond<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0and referred to it as \u201cdemantoid\u201d, from the French \u201cdemant\u201d meaning diamond. The reason is obvious, with its high brilliance and dispersion.
