In the centre is a young girl with a rose diamond bandeau. On the reverse is a hinged locket. The roots of the medal jewel are found in the archaeological revival period and, as design moved towards the &#8220;fin d&#8217;si\u00e8cle&#8221;, the Art Nouveau style came to influence the design. Feminine figures, flowing hair, flowers and classic subjects such as the \u201cThree Graces\u201d and \u201cFour Seasons\u201d appeared as the more coin-like medals waned. Medals, appearing around 1899, with their diamond accents, proved to be a turning point for the popularity of the medal jewel.
