A rare cross set with rectangular cut and shaped foil backed emeralds. In the Georgian period jewellers often set gemstones in closed back settings in order to enhance their brilliance by candlelight. Emeralds were hard to come by in the early 1800s so this would have been an expensive piece at the time. The silver is a lovely colour as it has been lightly gilded.
