A rare survival of a jet ring that was carved circa 1860-1880. It is known as a “Fede” ring because of the clasped hands that signify friendship, love or betrothal. This style of ring goes back to Roman times if not before. It became prominent in the medieval period from the 12th century onwards and in more modern times. The name fede is from the Italian phrase \u201cmani in fede\u201d or \u201chands clasped in faith\u201d. This ring cannot be sized. Please note that jet is brittle so it can break easily and this ring is not suitable for every day wear, and should be viewed as a collector’s ring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
