Victorian Silver & Gold Overlay Bangle with a Vase of Flowers Motif

Written by Olly Gerrish

This is such a pretty Victorian silver bangle that was made circa 1880. The motif is a vase filled with Convolvulus on one side and roses on the other. The convolvulus was thought to symbolise ‘bonds’ and the rose signifies ‘Love’. The leaves and flowers have been overlaid with two colour rose and yellow gold, a technique that was developed in Birmingham in the late 1800s. On either side is a continuous double band of leaves.
