Written by Olly Gerrish

A smart silver garter brooch set with carved grey agates. The silver has been finely engraved which is a lovely detail. It was made circa 1860-1880 and would have been intended as a tourist momento of Scotland. This style grew up around Queen Victoria’s purchase of Balmoral Castle in 1860. Many pieces were made as tourist trinkets to the travellers who flocked to the Cairngorms to discover the beauty and serenity of the Scottish mountains.
