Victorian Enamel Snake & Diamond Crescent Brooch

Written by Olly Gerrish

This brooch has wonderful symbolism. The serpent is a symbol of wisdom and defiance. It represents fertility and renewal. Because of it’s forked tongue it was also associated with lightning and the sun and great knowledge. The crescent moon symbolises new beginnings and the making of dreams into reality.  It is a beautifully made piece. The snake is enamelled in emerald green and has tiny cabochon ruby eyes. It is holding a natural pearl in it’s mouth.  The moon is set with diamonds. It was made circa 1890.
