Carnelian has been known and used since antiquity when it was sourced from the surfaces of the Egyptian and Arabian deserts. The most prized carnelian has a true blood-red color. and the other is bloodstoneA dark green to dark bluish-green variety of Chalcedony that is splattered with red or brown spots that resemble blood. The extent of the marking varies depending on the stone. Spots are favoured over larger stripes and markings.. Both stones are types of agateA variety of cryptocrystalline quartz (chalcedony), typically banded in appearance. The use of agate in jewellery dates back to the Stone Age. and are plain. They can be engraved if wanted. The sides have been engraved with diamonds within squares. This seal was made circa 1880. There is another smaller seal that matches this one if you fancy two!
