Victorian 18ct Gold Snake Ring with Rose Diamond Eyes

28W
200 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

A beautiful 18ct gold snake ring that was made in Birmingham in 1868.  The snake’s head has been hand engraved and the eyes have been set with rose diamonds and the top of the head has been set with an old mine cut diamond.  It is rare that we see a snake ring with this level of detail. When worn the snake winds around the finger beautifully. Snake jewellery was particularly popular in the Victorian era as the Victorians loved sending secret messages. Snakes symbolise “Eternal love” and the diamond set in to the snake’s head means “Eternal Love”.  Famously, Queen Victoria was given a snake ring as her engagement ring from Albert which increased their popularity at the time. This is a beautiful example of a snake ring and would make the perfect gift to a loved one.
