Victorian 18ct Gold Snake Necklace set with Diamonds & Turquoise with Ruby Eyes

821X
160 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A stunning 18ct gold snake necklace that was made circa 1860. His head has been set with rose diamonds and his eyes have been set with rubies. His articulated body is entirely covered with turquoise in rub over settings. The long tongue clasp slides in to his mouth so when worn it appears that he is eating his tail. The ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a snake eating its own tail, representing the cycle of death and rebirth.

The word “ouroboros” comes from a Greek word meaning “tail-devourer”. The symbol has been used in many cultures.

This necklace looks amazing when worn. We also have a snake bracelet that closely matches it.
