Victorian 18ct Gold Old Mine Cut Diamond Five Stone Ring

Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a lovely five stone diamond ring that was made in Birmingham in 1865. The 18ct gold band has been set with five well matched old mine cut diamonds with a total estimated weight of over one carat. Unlike modern brilliant cut diamonds, old mine cuts are square or rectangular in outline with high crowns which produce flashes of colour known as ‘fire’. The ring sits low on the finger and curves around nicely. It would make a perfect engagement ring.
