Victorian 18ct Gold Harlequin Pendant set with Sapphires, Emerald, Pearls, Green Garnet & Garnet

398X
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 18ct. gold gem set harlequin pendant that was made circa 1880-1900. In the centre is a beautiful claw set yellow sapphire that has an approximate weight of just under two carats. Around it are natural split pearls and a sapphire, a pale pink sapphire, a garnet, an emerald, a pink tourmaline and a pale blue sapphire.  The bale has been set with a green garnet and two small natural split pearls.  Harlequin jewels originated in Venice in the early 19th century after the colourful costume of the character of the same name in the Commedia Dell’Arte.

A rare survival that looks stunning when worn.
