Victorian 18ct Gold, Fire Opal & Diamond Cluster Ring

873U

Written by Olly Gerrish

Fire opals are fairly uncommon stones that are mainly found in Mexico nowadays, but also come from Australia and Ethiopia. This ring was made in 1894 and has been set with a lovely translucent cabochon cut fire opal that probably came from Australia and has an approximate weight of just over one carat. It displays a brilliant orange colour with flecks of yellow.  Around it are small old mine cut diamonds.  The shank is 18ct gold and sweeps up to join the cluster. it sits low on the finger and curves around nicely so it would make a lovely dress or engagement ring.
