Victorian 18ct Gold & Bloodstone Signet Ring with an Eagle Intaglio

512M
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good looking 18ct gold signet ring with an oval bloodstone carved with an intaglio to depict a winged eagle and motto reading ‘Rast Ich So Rost Ich.’ This translates from German, ‘I Rest So I Rust’. It was made in Birmingham in 1967. The eagle symbolises courage, strength and immortality, but it is also considered “king of the skies” and messenger of the highest gods, as they fly higher than any other bird. With these attributed qualities the eagle became a symbol of power and strength in Ancient Rome. What a perfect gift for a powerful man!
