Victorian 15ct Gold & Cabochon Garnet Ring

855R
Written by Olly Gerrish

A well designed Victorian 18ct gold ring that was made in Birmingham in 1881. At that time there was a huge fashion for cabochon garnets as it was known as “The Holbeinesque period” which harked back to the Renaissance period. The style was rich and sumptuous with pendants set with chrysolite and diamonds with a garnet in the centre and elaborate enamel decoration throughout. Rings were made to compliment these pieces and this example is typical and has been rub over set with a cabochon garnet. The shank is a lovely reeded design. It is a lovely ring to wear on a daily basis
