Victorian 15ct Gold Butterfly Earrings

127T
480 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A rare pair of 15ct gold earrings that were made circa 1860.  They are in wonderful condition and each one has an articulated butterfly seen from the side within an ornate circle of gold.  Above are leaves and buds.  Each butterfly has been finely engraved. Many believe butterflies to be a symbol of good luck.  They also represent the soul.  The three stages in a butterflies life cycle also takes on a religious meaning;  the life of a caterpillar, death represented by a chrysalis and rebirth as a butterfly.

Ollys Pick

I have never seen a pair of Victorian earrings like these before.
