William Bishop Ford was born in 1832 and died in 1922. He was a student of William Essex who also painted miniatures of dogs and other animals. Their sought after miniatures were mostly set in gold mounts such as this example. The subject of a wily fox is beautifully interpreted. It is in lovely condition and signed and dated on the reverse.
Ford along with Essex were the best enamel miniature artists in the VictorianJewellery made in the the Victorian era (1839-1901). period
