Silver, Blue John & Marcasite Ring

273/O
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

Blue John is a semi-precious mineral, a form of fluorite with bands of a purple-blue or yellowish colour. It is only found in Derbyshire, the most famous caves being the Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern at Castleton. During the 19th century, it was mined for its ornamental value, and mining continues on a small scale today. This silver ring features a good piece of Blue John with purple veins. It is surrounded by marcasite (iron pyrites) The shoulders are split and set with graded marcasite.
