Book Your AppointmentThis is a great looking 18ct gold snake bracelet that was made circa 1830. The sinuous articulated body curves around to the clasp that fits in to the side of the snake’s mouth. There is a small engraved heart that is suspended from his head. The heart has a glazed locket on the reverse and has been set with a small turquoise.
The most common meaning of a snake in antique jewellery is “Eternity”, which is why Prince Albert created a ring for Queen Victoria in 1840. In other cultures, the snake ring symbolises eternal love, and the Ouroboros, a symbol of time and eternity, is also represented by the snake. The use of the turquoise means “Forget me not” after the blue flower of the same name.
