heart shaped pendant that was made in Norway circa 1930-1950. It has been beautifully enamelled with a gentian over translucent white enamelA pigmented glass-like material used in powdered form and fused onto the metal surface of a piece of jewellery. with a radiating background in the silver beneath. It was made by Aksel Holmsen. He trained with David Andersen during 1889-1892 . He went on to open his own silversmith workshop in 1904 in
Oslo which became know for its modernist design aesthetic. They produced traditional filigreeA means of decoration, achieved by soldering very fine gold or silver wires into intricate patterns. Historically, filigree was created by applying the wires to an underlying base. As the craft evolved, the base was abandoned and the result was a lighter, airier, lacy, openwork jewelry item. The latter style was especially popular during the nineteenth centu... work, as well as enamel floral brooches in the Fifties and plain silver modernist abstract jewellery in the sixties. The company closed in 1971.
