Large Art Deco French Platinum Arrow Brooch set with Onyx & Rose Diamonds

Written by Olly Gerrish

Arrows had many meanings in antique jewellery. They could be worn for Love (Cupid’s arrow) Vengeance (poison arrow) Truth (‘straight as an arrow’) or Strength (Diana the Huntress with her quiver of arrows). This arrow is a particularly large example and was made in France in the Art Deco period circa 1925. The arrow head and feathers have been set with graduated rose diamonds and the shaft has been set with baguette cut onyx within tramline settings. This combination of stones was common in the 1920s and it created drama in a piece of jewellery. This is a large arrow brooch and is a dramatic look when worn on a lapel.

Ollys Pick
