Georgian Harlequin Triple Drop Earrings

504W
40 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

A stunning pair of 9ct gold triple drop Georgian earrings that were made circa 1820. They have been pinched collet set with a mixture of gemstones, namely topaz, moonstones, rock crystals, garnets and pale aquamarines in a harlequin style. The word harlequin means ‘many coloured’, and finds its origins in the vivacious costume of a character of that name from the 16th century commedia del’arte. so these earrings may well originally have been part of a set of jewels to include a necklace and bracelets.
