Georgian Cut Steel Brooch

69N
Written by Olly Gerrish

Cut steel jewellery was created from what was originally used for horseshoe nails in the 18th century. It was rivet set with small, individually faceted and polished steel studs, fashioned to catch the light and sparkle like the diamond cuts of that period. This brooch is a good example of the art and was made circa 1800-1820 in Birmingham.
