They are composed of long lobes carved in grey chalcedonyA microcrystalline type of quartz occurring in several different forms including onyx and agate.. Around and above each lobe are wrapped branches of oak leaves and acorns in three colours of gold. The acorns have been set with turquoiseTurquoise is an opaque gem and is often formed in what is called matrix, a black or brown veining derived from the host rock in which the gem forms. In fine jewellery, unblemished sky blue turquoise is the ideal, although regularly patterned matrix turquoise is also sought-after.. Above are round half chalcedony beads surrounded by further oak leaves and turquoise. The oak branch is a symbol of strength and independence and is a quintessentially English motif.
