Georgian Amethyst Paste Earrings

368F
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A useful pair of purple coloured paste earrings which have been converted from Georgian studs. They have gold wires and the pastes are mounted in silver. The two pastes have been foiled at the back so they have a lovely translucent appearance and look like amethysts. In the Georgian period amethyst was an expensive stone as they had just begun importing them from Brazil, so paste imitations were made and are very desirable and collectable today.
