Georgian 18ct Gold & Silver, Diamond Cluster Ring with rose Diamond set Shoulders

721R
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is such a pretty ring that was made circa 1820. In the centre is a half carat old mine cut diamond. Around it are twelve rose cut diamond with further rose cut diamonds in a slanting design on either side of the cluster. The rose cut originated in the 1500’s and was commonly used through the Georgian and Victorian eras. Like other antique diamond cuts, they were cut by hand and meant to dazzle under candlelight. The facets performed exquisitely in low light conditions. Old mine cut diamonds have a smaller table, high crown, and 58 larger facets. They differ from modern brilliant cut diamonds in that old mine cut diamonds have bulkier proportions. They were chosen so that the diamonds would sparkle under candlelight. A lovely ring for someone who loves Georgian jewels!

I love this ring too ! Original Georgian rings are getting so hard to find.
