The front has an elaborately pierced and engraved sprig motif. Beneath is Royal blue enamelA pigmented glass-like material used in powdered form and fused onto the metal surface of a piece of jewellery.. On the reverse is a glazed locket that would have originally held a lock of hair. The padlock hinges open and is engraved with a criss cross design. It would most likely originally have been the clasp on a bracelet but nowadays can be worn on a chain around the neck.
