Georgian 15ct Gold Two Colour Wedgwood Jasper Ware Brooch of a Neo-Classical Scene

177U
200 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

Wedgwood Jasper ware, was invented and introduced by Josiah Wedgwood in the late 18th century, and was a success in the Neo-Classical period around 1800. The extremely finely moulded white figures are fixed to unglazed pink and blue stoneware to create a carved cameo effect. This brooch has a simple moulded rim of 15ct gold and was made circa 1820. The brooch fitting and roll over catch are later and safer additions.
