Georgian 15ct Gold, Diamond & Blue Enamel Firmament Ring

33U
480 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual Georgian ring that was made circa 1780-1800. It has been enamelled in translucent Royal blue enamel which has a distinctive hue and vibrancy. It has been set in the centre with an old mine cut diamond in a silver pinched collet setting. The celestial blue enamel evokes the night sky and the old mine cut diamond twinkles like a star. Around the edge are more old mine cut diamonds in pinched collet settings. This style of ring was known as “Bague au firmament” “Ring of the Heavens” and was originally popularised by Marie Antoinette, hence the French name.
