French Belle Epoque Rose Diamond & Garnet Doublet Earrings

Written by Olly Gerrish

A good looking pair of 18ct gold earrings that were made in France circa 1900-1910. They have been set with garnet doublets. A “Doublet” is an assembled or composite gem that is comprised of a top and a bottom, with an adhesive in the middle to fuse them together. Doublets were commonly used in Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, and are known as “garnet doublets” to imitate ruby, sapphire, emerald and other coloured gemstones. So these earrings appear to be set with sapphires but are actually garnet doublets. They are surrounded by rose diamonds with a rose diamond at the top of each earring. They have comfortable hinge back fittings.
