Edwardian Diamond & Opal Brooch/ Pendant

Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a wonderful and impressive pendant that can also be worn as a brooch. It was made in the Edwardian period, circa 1910, and has been set with a large cabochon opal that weighs over 13 carats.  It displays wonderful flashes of red, green and blue.  The rainbow colours that you see are caused by a tiny amount of trapped water that the opals has within it.  This is common to all opals.  Around the opal is an array of old mine cut diamonds and rose cut diamonds in a pretty openwork design with an articulated drop set with a diamond.  It is such a pretty look when worn.
