Edwardian 9ct Back & Front Shield Shaped Locket with Swallow Motif

Written by Olly Gerrish

A very pretty 9ct gold back and front shield shaped locket that was made circa 1910. The term “9ct Back & Front” means that the front and back are 9ct gold and the inner frames and hinges are metal. It has a swallow with a branch of flowers on both sides. It opens to reveal two areas for photographs. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. It also meant “Everlasting love” and “loyalty” as swallows mate for life. What a lovely sentiment to pass on to someone that you love
