Edwardian 18ct Gold Signet Ring set with Banded Onyx with Intaglio of a Crowned Duke

543W

Written by Olly Gerrish

A lovely 18ct gold signet ring that was assayed in London in 1918 at the close of World War 1.  It has been set with a banded onyx with a carved intaglio of a Duke’s head with a coronet.  The humble strawberry leaves were always used on coronets in England. They served to remind sovereigns, Dukes and Earls that though elevated to so high a station in society they must never forget that they are just humble men. Engraved inside the shank is T to M 4th Oct 1918.
