Edwardian 18ct Gold Ring with Roman Hard Stone Cameo of a Rabbit

787X
40 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a charming 18ct gold ring that was assayed in Birmingham in 1914. It has been set in a Roman setting with a Roman cameo of a rabbit that was carved around 100AD.  In some ancient cultures, rabbits were symbols of fertility and prosperity. In greek times they were sacred to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.

Engraved on the inside of the shank is a sweet memoriam “mar 7th 1915 My Devoted Dad”.
