Edwardian 18ct Gold Double Snake Ring set with a Ruby & Diamond

219T
280 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

This 18ct gold double snake ring was made in the early 1900s, possibly in Germany. A luminous red ruby and an old mine cut diamond have been set into the heads of two interlocking snakes. The snake motif has been used in jewellery as a symbol of everlasting love since the Roman times and became popular again in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. This ring has a lovely flowing design, with two flicked tails weaving in between the snake heads. This is an elegant ring with a lighter feel than most of the snake rings we come across. It would make an unusual engagement ring or token of love.
