Popular during the Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco eras but was discontinued in the mid-1930s. gold padlock that was made circa 1840. It has been clawA precious metal prong used to hold a gemstone in place. set with an almond shaped cabochonA polished, not faceted, dome shaped stone - either round or oval with a flat polished base, primarily used as a cut for phenomenal stones such as cat's eyes and stars.
garnetDescribes a group of several closely related minerals. Garnets come in a variety of colours, however the most common colour is dark red. In descriptions, ‘garnet’ tends to refer to dark red stones unless otherwise specified.. It has been engraved with scroll work with contrasting stippling around the garnet. On the reverse is a glazed locket that contains a lock of hair. The padlock hinges open so you can either wear it on a necklace or with a bracelet.
Early padlocks are so hard to find nowadays and this one is a lovely example in great condition.
