Art Nouveau 18ct Two Colour Gold Heart Shaped Mistletoe Motif Locket set with Three Natural Split Pearls

Written by Olly Gerrish

A very pretty heart shaped locket that was most likely made in France circa 1900-1910 and is typical of the Art Nouveau period with two colour gold detail. It has a mistletoe design. In the forest, mistletoe is a bit of a scourge, a parasitic plant that latches on to trees and feeds off of them. But at Christmas, it becomes a symbol of romance. According to the tradition, it is bad luck to refuse a kiss beneath the mistletoe. After the kiss, the couple has to pluck one of the berries from the plant. With this locket you don’t have to do any of the above but it does send a powerful message to someone that you love.
