Art Deco Sapphire & Diamond, Diamond Shaped Ring

293/O

Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 18ct gold ring with a platinum top. It was made in the 1920s and although not large it is a great design and typical of the geometric style of the Art Deco period.  It has been set with five small diamonds and four shaped sapphires within millgrained settings. This is when the edges of the platinum have been worked with a knurling tool to produce tiny beads, hence the French name “Millgrain” meaning a thousand beads. It would make a lovely original engagement ring.
