Art Deco Platinum Onyx & Marquise Diamond Rectangular Shaped Ring

Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a pure Art Deco platinum ring that was made in the 1920s and is most likely German or Austrian origin. The design is a strong geometric look that personified the era. In the middle is a marquise shaped diamond that weighs nearly one carat. Around it is onyx with canted corners set with small diamonds. There is attention to detail throughout with millgraining to the edges of the platinum. This is when the edges of the metal have been worked with a knurling tool to produce tiny beads, hence the French name “Millgrain” meaning a thousand beads. It sits low on the finger so it is a practical ring to wear.
