Art Deco 18ct White Gold & Platinum Ring set with a Fire Opal with Rose Diamond Set Shoulders

Written by Olly Gerrish

An impressive 18ct white gold ring with a platinum top that was made circa 1920. It has been claw set with a large fire opal that has an approximate weight of just under three and a quarter carats. Fire opals are amazing stones and are found in Mexico. The Mayas and Aztecs loved this gemstone and used it in mosaics and for ritualistic purposes. They called it “quetzalitzlipyollitli”, the “The bird of paradise stone”. The stone knowledge of Mexico’s natives, which had been handed down for generations sank into oblivion for a long time until in the early 1800s, the fiery treasures hidden in the Mexican highlands were remembered, and mining gradually started again.  There are further rose diamonds set in to each of the shoulders that add extra sparkle to this amazing ring and millgrain detail on the shoulders.

A great ring that will be sure to attract attention when worn!
