Art Deco 18ct White Gold & Platinum, Black Opal & Diamond Ring

406T
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An impressive 18ct white gold ring with a platinum top that was made in the 1920s. It has been claw set with an oval black opal that displays wonderful flashes of red, blue with some bright green. The colours are like peacock feathers with great depth of colour. The opal originates from Lightning Ridge in Australia. The first recorded black opal was found there in 1873. It was the only place where black opals were sourced in the early 20th century. Around the opal are twenty four well matched white diamonds. It is a glorious ring and looks stunning when worn.

Ollys Pick

Black opals in original Art Deco are so hard to find and this ring is a superb example.
