Art Deco Platinum, Lapis Lazuli & Rose Diamond Ring

Written by Olly Gerrish

A good looking platinum ring that has been set with a rectangular plaque of lapis. The name comes from the Latin word ‘lapis’ meaning ‘stone’ and the Persian “lazhward” meaning blue. In Ancient Egypt, it was used in cosmetics for thousands of years. Artists in the Renaissance ground it to make powder for their pigments to paint frescoes. It is just such a stunning rich deep blue colour. Around the lapis are small rose diamonds that twinkle when they catch the light. The ornate shoulders have also been set with small rose diamonds. It is typical of 1920s geometric style and looks great when worn.
