Art Deco 18ct Gold, Ruby & Diamond Three Stone Ring

745R
Written by Olly Gerrish

This lovely 18ct gold three stone ruby and diamond Ring was made in the 1930s. The central stone is a striking translucent pigeon blood red ruby, likely of Burma origin. It is highlighted by two well-matched, bright white old European cut diamonds. It has been hallmarked at a later date and assayed in London for 2020. This is because it has most likely been through a pawnbroker or a jewellery retailer that specialises in modern jewellery. It is a legal requirement in modern shops under the Hallmarking Act 1973 to mark the gold weight if they are unmarked. Usually a ring made before 1973, is treated as exempt if they were manufactured before, hence the lack of hallmarks in Antique Jewellery and why you see many antique pieces without their hallmarks. It is a beautiful ring and would make a gorgeous engagement ring
