Art Deco 18ct Gold & Platinum, Old Mine Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring

74M
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 18ct gold ring that was made in the 1920s. It has been set with an old mine cut diamond that is a deep stone weighing one carat. Popularised in 1750 and developed in the 18th century European old mine cushion cuts were not round but had a slightly curved edge which formed a soft square. They were made with a variety of facet patterns but always with a small table, high crown, and larger culet. The diamond in this ring is a good example of that type of cut and is tinted yellow. It was probably cut in the early 19th century but has been set in to a later mount. It would make a lovely engagement ring.
