9ct Gold Ring with Carnelian Masonic Intaglio

608P
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good 9ct gold ring that has been set with a carved carnelian intaglio of the Square and Compass. This is the single most identifiable symbol of Freemasonry. Both the square and compasses are architect’s tools and are used in Masonic ritual as emblems to teach symbolic lessons. The carnelian which is a type of agate has been cut through the paler white part to the darker band below to provide the contrast. It was made circa 1920 in Birmingham.
