An attractive 9ct gold bangle that was assayed in Birmingham in 1935 and was made by the well known firm Smith and Pepper(1899-1981) Mr Smith and his uncle Mr Pepper became business partners. The business was set up in Birmingham in an area known as the Jewellery quarter in adjoining buildings 78 and 79 Vyse Street. The company became known around the world. The firm made a wide range of jewellery, notably swallow designs, popular during the Wars wars and Egyptian style snake designs, after Egyptologist Howard Carter made ancient Egypt fashionable. It finally stopped trading in 1981. For its 82 year history the firm was run as a family business. The premises in Vyse Stree are now a museum.<\/p>\n
This bangle is a lovely example of their work and has been engraved on both sides with roses and ivy leaves that send a lovely message to the recipient “To love and cling to me”.<\/p>\n
