A beautiful 18ct gold tie pin that was made by the well known 19th century jeweller John Brogden circa 1880. It is composed of a crown set with rubies above a lover’s knot implying a Royal marriage perhaps.<\/p>\n
John Brogden was a renowned English goldsmith noted for his ancient, Egyptian, and Renaissance revival designs. He worked in the Covent Garden area of London, first as Brogden and Garland (1826 to 1835). From 1842 to 1864 the firm at that address was listed as Watherston and Brogden and from 1864 to 1880 the location became Brogden\u2019s alone. he exhibited at\u00a0<\/i>London and Paris exhibitions in 1851, 1862, 1867 and 1878.\u00a0 In 1867 he won a gold medal for his jewellery at the Paris International Exhibition. Along with the firm\u00a0Giuliano<\/i>\u00a0he produced some of England\u2019s best examples of revival-style jewellery.
