Victorian Tortoiseshell Pique Treble Hoop Earrings

807E
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good pair of Victorian tortoiseshell earrings which have been inlaid with gold and silver floral designs. They were made in the late Victorian period, circa 1880. Prior to that date plain black jewellery was worn as everyone was in mourning for Prince Albert. As the century wore on black pieces such as jet, sardonyx, and tortoiseshell became more ornate as memories dimmed!
