Victorian Scottish Silver, Citrine, Garnet & Agate Drop Earrings

660M
Written by Olly Gerrish

A well designed pair of earrings that were made for the Scottish tourist trade in the 1870s. Queen Victoria had bought Balmoral castle in the 1860s which led to a new interest in Scotland. Many people travelled there for sport to stalk and shoot, or just to travel around and discover the wonderful scenery and ruined castles. Inevitably they were tempted to buy the trinkets on offer. Pebbles were sourced in the river beds and polished and shaped to fit in to brooches, necklaces and earrings. These earrings are a good example of the craftsmanship and have also been set with garnets and citrines.
